Pear and Chocolate Crumble

 

I love a good crumble, and even more so with chocolate. This pear and chocolate crumble is a comforting dessert that never fails to satisfy my sugar cravings.

When I was younger, pear and chocolate tarte was always one of my favourite desserts. The sweetness of the pear combined with the darker bitterness of the chocolate is for me a marriage made in heaven. I wanted to try out the same combination as a crumble to make a simple, yet satisfying recipe. The resultant crumble is lighter and healthier than a tarte,  lightly sweetened yet just as delicious.

I tried out several batches and since everyone who tried it seemed to like it, I ended up sharing it with all my friends and colleagues. Now I want to share it with you!

 

 

Pear and Chocolate Crumble

Servings: 6

Cook time: 30 min
Total time: 40 min

Ingredients

  • 4 pears
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

For the crumble

  • 1/4 cup spelt or wholemeal flour, 50 g
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, 50 g
  • 2/3 cup oats, 60 g
  • 3 + 1/2 tbsp organic brown sugar or coconut sugar, 40 g
  • 1/3 cup organic dairy free dark chocolate, 50 g

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.

  2. Peel and cube pears. Add to a pan with maple syrup and cinnamon and cook over medium heat until soft. 

  3. In a mixing bowl, add coconut oil, flour and oats and crumble with your fingers. Add sugar and crumble again. Finally add chopped chocolate. 

  4. In a baking dish, place the pear mixture and top with the crumble.

  5. Cook for 20 - 25 minutes or until golden. 

  6. Serve warm and enjoy!
